A new phone application, MyForce, is designed to assist those faced with danger. If the user feels they are unsafe, they can hit a button on their phone, which sends an alert to a monitoring team at MyForce. The group listens and records audio coming from the user's smartphone.

An Indiana University student is urging students to think about their personal safety and download a new phone application.

Kayla Wegner, a junior at IU, is a student advocate for MyForce.  The phone app is a personal security system that helps subscribers when they are in danger with the touch of a button. If the user feels they are in danger, they can hit a button on their phone.  Then phone then goes dark and the app sends an alert to a monitoring team at MyForce.  The group listens and records audio coming from the user's smartphone.

Wegner said crimes against students at IU, including the disappearance of Lauren Spierer, inspired her to take proactive steps to stay safe, and she hopes other students will do the same.

MyForce is offering a discounted rate because of the disappearance of Spierer.  MyForce will donate $10 for every subscription to the Help Find Lauren Fund.  To subscribe with the promotion, enter the promo code: FINDLAUREN
