FR01 Preparing Your Home For Sale
By Ken Lawson, J.D.
The likelihood is that the decision to sell your home by owner did not come lightly. After all, Realtors have a massive marketing structure that has been proven extremely effective, and there is a lot of work involved, not to mention the exposure to civil liability that is involved.
Owners sell homes themselves for several reasons. Some have had negative experiences with agents, and that’s understandable because there are great agents, and really lousy agents, just as there is in every other profession. Most owners sell by themselves, though, because they want to save the real estate commission, which amounts to a lot of money out of the equity in your home. Some take on the challenge because they are in a financial crisis with inadequate equity in their home. But, a number of owners believe, and it is often truly the case, that they have the intelligence and ability to sell the home themselves. Some of you have a great amount of experience because you’ve sold homes by yourself in the past.
